Your first stop-off point is Woodhenge, where you'll see pillars marking the positions of Neolithic wooden posts aligned to the summer solstice sunrise. Next, visit Durrington Walls, the site of an ancient henge. These are important World Heritage Sites and will certainly whet your appetite for the main attraction—Stonehenge.

We'll pick you up from your hotel in London and take you in comfort to see the iconic Ancient Monuments of Stonehenge, Avebury and Woodhenge. And on top of that, a visit to the historic city of Salisbury with its imposing cathedral and the tallest spire in the country. Soak up the beautiful Wiltshire countryside on the way. After you've enjoyed the wonders of the ancient monuments, a hearty pub lunch, and the historic Salisbury Cathedral, you can relax as your chauffeur drops you back to your London hotel.
Then it's time for your tour of the Neolithic site at Stonehenge. You'll certainly feel the magic of the ancient stones, which were laid down 4 to 5 thousand years ago. It's true function is not fully understood but the fact that it aligns with the summer and winter solstices suggests it was used as an ancient calendar.
On site is the fabulous Stonehenge Visitor Centre where you can further explore the mysteries of the ancient stones. Here you'll enjoy fascinating exhibits and multi-media displays. Outside there are reconstructed Neolithic houses, where sometimes you can see ancient crafting demonstrations and bread-making using prehistoric techniques.
By now you'll be feeling a tad peckish so there's nothing better than a traditional pub lunch. We like the Wheatsheaf in Wiltshire's Lower Woodford, where you can enjoy hearty pub classics like fish & chips or a Sunday roast. Cosy up by the log fire in winter and enjoy a nice pint of English real ale and a bag of nuts.
A short drive from Stonehenge is Salisbury, a beautiful medieval city built on a prehistoric site. See the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in Britain. Built between 1220 and 1280, the Cathedral still holds one of the original copies of Magna Carta. There's lots of artistic and historical things to see at the cathedral including a modernist sculpture by Barbara Hepworth and a fourteenth century mechanical clock. There's just time for a short peruse of the city centre and then it's on to the next stop—ancient Avebury.
The beautiful Wiltshire village of Avebury is set amongst the largest megalithic stone circle in the world; in fact not just one stone circle but three! You can walk amongst the ancient megaliths, feel them and soak up the magic of the stones, which were laid down almost 5,000 years ago. You might want a momento of your visit to Avebury so the village's Henge Shop is the perfect place for this.
