Our experienced drivers will help you tailor your day to get the most from your Cathedrals & Stonehenge Tour, find you a great place for afternoon tea or the best shop for souvenirs. Travel in air-conditioned, chauffeur-driven comfort through the beautiful English countryside. We can pick you up from your hotel, the airport or port. Your first stop is the magificent 900 year old Winchester Cathedral—the resting place of Anglo-Saxon and Norman kings.

Anthony Gormley sculpture of lead figure in the Crypt.

The eleventh century Winchester Cathedral is simply full of surprises. Not only is it the resting place of English novelist Jane Austen but there's also a sculpture in the Crypt by the internationally renowned artist, Sir Antony Gormley. It's also the longest medieval cathedral in the world.

Our next stop for lunch is The Wheatsheaf, a delightful 17th-century pub nestled in the charming village of Lower Woodford. This inviting country pub boasts a lovely beer garden, making it the perfect place to relax and unwind with a delicious meal and refreshing drink.

Down the main aisle towards the alter with columns and arches.

Salisbury is a beautiful medieval city built on a prehistoric site. See the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral, which boasts the tallest spire in Britain. Built between 1220 and 1280, the Cathedral still holds one of the original copies of Magna Carta. There's lots of artistic and historical things to see at the cathedral including a modernist sculpture by Barbara Hepworth and a fourteenth century mechanical clock. There's just time for a short peruse of the city centre and then it's on to the next stop—the ancient monument of Stonehenge.

Before the main event we'll take you to see Woodhenge where you'll see pillars marking the positions of Neolithic wooden posts which have long since rotted away. It's an important World Heritage Site and consists of six concentric ovals of standing posts, surrounded by a bank and ditch.

Close up of a trilithon.

Stonehenge is the most famous and enigmatic historical site in the country. Developed in stages over a 5,000 year period, the giant standing stones weigh up to 50 tonnes and dominate the landscape of Salisbury Plain. Was it a ceremonial temple… or built by aliens? You decide.

On site is the fabulous Stonehenge Visitor Centre where you can further explore the mysteries of the ancient stones. Here you'll enjoy world-class exhibitions and multi-media displays. Outside there are reconstructed Neolithic houses—where if you're lucky—you might see ancient crafting demonstrations and bread-making using prehistoric techniques.

Due to time constraints we suggest eating lunch in the vehicle whilst on the move. If you would rather have a pub or restaurant lunch we would need to extend the tour by 2 hours at an extra cost of £100.
