Platform 9 3⁄4 with caption 'King's Cross. It's Magic!'.

Kings Cross is a working train and tube station in London. It is a popular place to tour for many reasons but none more so than its ties to the world created by J.K. Rowling.

Magic & Film

Many wannabe witches and wizards flock to Kings Cross station to try their luck accessing Platform 9¾ . Fun fact – when Rowling was writing the first Harry Potter book it was actually Euston Station that she was envisioning, Kings Cross doesn’t have enough platforms. After the success of the books however Platform 9¾ was created between Platforms 4 and 5 and it is to this area that people visit. Have a photograph taken beneath the mystical Platform 9 3/4 sign, but please don’t try and run through the wall unless you are a real witch or a wizard! We’ll show you the magical platform where the Hogwart’s Express departs…
Kings Cross is also the setting for Sir Alec Guinness’s popular 1950’s comedy ‘The Ladykillers’.

Modern diagrid structure of glass, steel, and aluminum.

Architecture

Kings Cross is a stunning mix of the modern and Victorian. The station was designed by Lewis Cubitt and opened in 1850. The most notable feature, then and now, is its stunning roof which was allegedly modelled on the riding school of the Tzars of Moscow. Since 2007 much work has been completed to renovate, extend and modernise the facilities however the original Victorian entrance has been lovingly restored and is quite a site to see.
