Union Flag or Union Jack Book Tour
Aerial view of the castle and park.

Royal Windsor is one of the most popular places in England to tour. Not only is it steeped in history it is also set within some of the UK’s most beautiful rural areas. It is easy to see why this bustling town appeals.

Royalty

A very prominent feature of any visit to Windsor is of course the castle. One of Queen Elizabeth’s favourite residences, Windsor Castle is rich in royal history. The castle is the larges inhabited castle in the world and has, in fact, been a residence to royalty continuously for 900 years.

Built by William the Conqueror, it has been a favourite palace of the Royal Families of the United Kingdom since then. To this day the Union Jack flag flies proudly over Windsor Castle every day unless the Queen herself is in residence, when it is replaced by the Royal Standard.

Windsor Castle is one of England’s largest royal palaces. See the magnificent State Apartments, containing many great works of art, St George's Chapel (the burial place of many Kings and Queens) and Queen Mary's Dolls’ House, exquisitely perfect to the tiniest detail.

Shopping

Windsor has a bustling retail centre which presents with a wonderful cross section of independent stores along with all the popular high street stores you would expect to find. You can buy practically anything from high street goods, bespoke handcrafted items to antique gems. There are also a few Farmer’s Markets too, with The Windsor’s Farmers Market in St Leonards Road present on the first Saturday of every month. Windsor also has plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants around to ensure you stay refreshed on your shopping trips.

Nature

Royal Windsor is set in some of the most beautiful rural areas which includes 1000 acres of National Trust land as well as the Crown’s Estate of Windsor Great Park, which covers 4800 acres. As well as the River Thames which offers some breath-taking views as it winds its way through the borough.

Virginia Water is another nearby area of outstanding beauty that comprises many natural and man made features to be enjoyed and explored.
